Requirements

Admission Requirements

Applicants for admission must be admitted to a state bar in the United States and/or hold a Juris Doctor degree from a law school accredited by the American Bar Association, and/or have graduated from a recognized law school in a non-United States jurisdiction, and/or have been admitted to practice in a non-United States jurisdiction.

Degree Requirements

Candidates for the degree must (a) complete 21 credits, (b) complete at least one of the three sessions in Budapest, Hungary and (d) complete a further three credits within one year from the completion of the final session by undertaking a directed research project under the supervision of a member of the faculty of Lazarski University or Eötvös Loránd University, completing the Distance Learning course "Recognition and Enforcement of Foreign Judgments", or participating in and certifying three credits from a continuing legal education program conducted by the Center for International Legal Studies (30 hours of CILS CLE).

Each session concludes with examinations evaluated on an optional graded or pass/fail basis. If an examination is failed, the candidate may petition to (a) retake the examination, (b) repeat the course or an alternate course at the appropriate session or (c) gain the required credits by participating in a continuing legal education program conducted by the Center for International Legal Studies (if the candidate has already utilized, or intends to utilize, continuing legal education credits to complete his or her final three credits for the degree, an additional continuing legal education program will be required to remove the failing grade).

LL.M. with Honors

Candidates who elect to be graded and achieve a cumulative grade point average of 4.5 (B+) over the three Cycles will graduate with LL.M. with Honors.

LL.M. with High Honors

Candidates who elect to be graded and achieve a cumulative grade point average of 4.75 (A-) over the three Cycles will graduate with LL.M. with High Honors.

Transfer of Credits

6 to 12 credits may be transferred from a relevant LL.M. degree program (such as in Business, Banking, Finance, Intellectual Property, International Trade, and Tax). Up to 6 credits may be transferred from degree programs not directly relevant to the LL.M. in Transnational Commercial Practice (such as in American Law, Comparative Law, International Law, and Environmental Law). The transfer fee is US $100 per credit.

Transfer of 6 credits means that two sessions in Budapest and Warsaw (6 credits each) and one distance learning course (3 credits) or 30 hours of CILS CLE (3 credits) must be completed to obtain the Lazarski University LL.M.

Transfer of 9 credits means that two sessions in Budapest and Warsaw (6 credits each), must be completed to obtain the Lazarski University LL.M.

Transfer of 12 credits means that one session in Budapest or Warsaw (6 credits) and one distance learning course (3 credits) or 30 hours of CILS CLE (3 credits) must be completed to obtain the Lazarski University LL.M.
